biography

The multilingual poet Lubna Al Balushi writes poetry in Arabic, German, English, and Balochi. The young Omani poet presents values in all four languages. Lubna is one of the few people who ventures writing poetry beyond her own mother tongue. She is the first Omani author to publish a poetry book in German. Her book "Schönheit des Herzens", from German “Beauty of the Heart”, is an exquisite collection of 54 poems which was published completely in German language. Lubna Al Balushi learned the basics of the German language in 2007 at the Goethe-Institute in Muscat and gained a scholarship to continue her studies in Freiburg, Germany, 2008.

Lubna Al Balushi had the privilege to exhibit and read her poetries at University of Hamburg, 2013, during the Arabic Cultural Week and cooperate with German photographer and journalist, Ania Menzel, for the project ''Faces from the Land of Tolerance, Oman''. Hence, the both launched Photography and Poetry Exhibitions were a success. The collaboration was showcasing portraits of Omani men, women and children via German eyes in the sceneries of the beauty of Oman, the spirit of nature, faces full of dreams, love, hope and exceptional moments. Indeed, the exhibition was designed in three different languages: Arabic, English and German.

In addition, 2017, Lubna had the honour to cooperate towards cultural exchange with the HumanityFirst campaign of the musicians duo Dust of Soul from Switzerland: Singer Saskia Stäuble and Pianist Michael Odermatt performed their own compositions to the respective poems. This combined poetry and music into a symphony.

Her linguistic creations are all about feelings - happiness and love, hopes and dreams.

For her, poetry is the mirror of soul, heart and culture. This is demonstrated further in her new collection' “Language of Heart” which will be featured in her upcoming Poetry Tour.
